Who is Jesus? Who is our Savior? Why does it matter if we know that He is eternal, everlasting?

The Holy Spirit has Isaiah write specific, identifying characteristics of this son, this Savior who will be given to us so that we can clearly identify Him. God desired the Savior be clearly known.

The Hebrew words for Eternal Father are telling us something very specific. From earlier in this same verse, it is clear that God the Father is sending His Son. So there are 2 people being discussed. This distiction of “eternal” is telling us something about this child who will be born to us. He will be identified as everlasting, eternal, just as God the Father is. God who is the Source and the Author of creation; The One who is eternal. Thus our Savior has no beginning and no end. He is eternal as well. Does this match up with the Jesus you know? Because if not, you haven’t yet met Jesus Christ, Mighty God, the Savior who is Eternal.

It is important to identify our Savior as eternal because only God is eternal. And only God, in His righteousness and holiness, is able to make the full and satisfying payment for our sins which are what seperate us from Him.

This separation as a result of our sin is our most severe and greatest problem. It casts a long shadow over every area of our lives and condemns us to eternal death. We are unable to lift its weight or move it in anyway. No matter how many “good” deeds we do.

“When the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:4-7)

It’s important to know that Jesus is God our eternal Savior for many will come in Jesus name, trying to deceive, (Matt 24:5). We need to know we follow the Jesus of the Bible. Not the Jesus of man’s ideas. There is only one Jesus, who is Emmanuel, the Everlasting God who is with us, and He alone is the One who can save.
