I’ve always been of 2 minds about mysteries. I love the anticipation and the puzzle involved in figuring them out, but sometimes the path to and even the ending itself leave much to be desired!
There is a glorious and priceless mystery that God has now begun to reveal to us and in us. We can’t fully understand it and we will continue to see the unfolding of its riches until the end of the ages. The end is known and the heart of the One who reveals this mystery is ALL good! For in Him is no darkness at all!
The mystery is that we, as sinners, have been given the opportunity to be indwelt with the living God, by the Spirit of Christ. Jesus is the image of the invisible God, to know Him is to know God.
We can come to KNOW God as we interact with and yield to Christ IN US! As we have relationship with God the Son, we can KNOW God. In Jesus are hidden ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and within each flesh and blood person who has turned in repentance to Him, He now resides.
How can sinful people, inclined to evil and opposed to God, be reconciled to God and know Him intimately? Just as assuredly as a new baby brings joy to a family in anticipation, God delights in the spiritual birth of each person. However, the pain, labor and hard work of birthing a baby precedes the joyous arrival.
There is a hard, but necessary truth to receive here. We are each born into sin and deserve death for the way we have rejected God and chosen our own way. We may think that we are good and that to do more good than bad is sufficient, but in the economy of God, no one is good, but God alone. And He is holy.
We are sinners in need of saving, but while we were still sinners, Christ came to die for us. Instead of us each paying for our own sin, Christ took the judgement for us on the cross. Today, would he sit in the electric chair? It’s a brutal and ruthless truth that in the eyes of heaven, my sin has made me deserving of the death penalty.
To receive this truth in humility paves the way for the beauty of new life! The opportunity is here today, for each to enter into the mystery unfolding before our eyes, as each sinner receives God’s assessment and turns to Him in repentance for the forgiveness of their sins. We can be saved from the eternal penalty of our sins and given eternal life along with the abundant life we are privileged to live in Christ. A blessed mystery, for which I am thankful!
